On November 17, under the guidance of the Zhongguancun Science City Management Committee, the "Automotive Industry Internationalization Development Conference" hosted by the China Electric Vehicle 100 Association was held at the Beijing Zhongguancun Exhibition Center Conference Center. The conference consisted of four parts: a high-level forum, an ecosystem forum, an intelligent forum, and a high-end seminar on new energy internationalization policies. It focused on the major opportunities, risks and challenges and scientific paths for the internationalization of China’s new energy vehicles. It explored how to grasp the development direction of technologies such as greening and digitalization of the automotive industry, and contribute the wisdom and strength of the automotive industry to build a highly international open and cooperative system.

The conference was presided over by Liu Xiaoshi, executive deputy secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicle 100 People’s Association. Zhou Weidong, president of the Machinery Industry Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, gave the opening remarks. Zhou Weidong said that manufacturing costs are better than overseas markets, electric transformation first-mover advantage, and taking the lead in intelligence are the three key factors to promote the internationalization of our country’s automobile industry and enterprises. With the blessing of domestic and international double circulation, China’s automobile industry will eventually become the leading force in the global automobile industry.

Zhang Yongwei, vice chairperson and secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicle 100 Association, also pointed out that the internationalization of Chinese automobiles is not only an old topic, but also a new task, and it carries an important strategy to realize the power of automobiles. But opportunities also come with challenges. Trade issues, standard issues, and data issues are all challenges at the level of international development rules for automobile enterprises, which requires upstream and downstream industries to form a joint force. It is also hoped that industry institutions, including the China Electric Vehicle 100 Association, will participate more in the construction of the cooperation system for the international development of automobile enterprises.

Qiao Xianghua, CEO of Great Wall Motor Europe, pointed out that Europe is the second largest new energy market in the world, and its willingness to transform into new energy is very firm. In addition to business challenges, Chinese car companies entering the European market also have operational challenges such as corporate operation, talent, and data transmission, which requires Chinese car companies to achieve localized operation and localized management. To this end, Great Wall Motor has built an entire ecological chain in Europe, including upstream suppliers, downstream dealers, service providers, and industry partners, as well as financial and insurance. Qiao Xianghua also believes that although Chinese independent brands currently face challenges such as cultural nuance, regulatory restrictions, and brand awareness when they go overseas, as long as they seize the window period of international development and insist on continuous innovation and development, Chinese brands will surely integrate into the global automotive ecosystem.

Zhang Xingyan, president of the overseas business department of Cyrus Group, also said that as an enterprise committed to globalization, Cyrus Automobile has gradually realized the overseas strategy of "products going out, industries going in, and brands going up" by continuously deepening its overseas layout. At present, the cumulative export of complete vehicles has exceeded 500,000. In terms of opportunities and challenges for the internationalization of car companies, Zhang Xingyan pointed out that in recent years, China’s new energy vehicle exports have grown rapidly, bringing new growth points for China’s automobile exports. However, the uncertainties of the global economy and situation have also continuously increased the risk of internationalization of automobile companies. In the face of a complex and ever-changing international environment and increasingly fierce industry competition, only by joining hands and jointly developing internationally can we create a vast world of new energy vehicles in China and win a better future for overseas business.

Insights and insights into the international development of car companies

At the conference’s ecosystem forum, intelligent forum, and high-end seminars, dozens of business leaders, industry experts, and institutional scholars conducted in-depth discussions and practical sharing on the overseas development model of automobiles, marketing system, insurance finance, recycling, intelligent development, data management, and safety management under the new situation.

Intelligent development has become an important direction for future automotive development. Guan Mingyu, a global managing partner at McKinsey, pointed out that the trend of intelligent change is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, intelligence can bring consumers new experiences that fuel vehicles could not provide in the past. On the other hand, it poses certain challenges in terms of laws and regulations and overseas consumer confidence. Therefore, how to create some products suitable for the local area, whether it is hardware, software, APP, ecology, these are all processes that need to be rethought. From the perspective of McKinsey, I believe that by 2030, 3-4 of the top ten global car companies will definitely be from China, but the core issue of which 3-4 companies are in the end is how to do a good job in overseas markets.

Meeting the data compliance requirements of different regions is a hurdle that Chinese car companies must cross for their international development. He Shanshan, dean of Beijing Zhilian Travel Research Institute, shared insights from the perspective of data security compliance. She pointed out that the international development data compliance of car companies should include understanding local laws and regulations, identifying high-risk scenarios, and regularly evaluating and auditing. In order to make overseas operations land smoothly.
