Zhou Jihong on the reality show "China Star Jump": Participation is victory

Xinhuanet, Beijing, April 12 (Reporter Zhou Xin) "Let more people know about diving", which is the original intention of Zhou Jihong, the leader of the Chinese diving team, to participate in the star reality show "China Star Jump" launched by Zhejiang Satellite TV. When the stars went through a period of training and premiered on April 6, Zhou Jihong strengthened her idea: diving is a sport that only seeks process but not result, and stars can participate in it to win.

As the head of Chinese diving, Zhou Jihong leads the team to win gold and silver in international competitions, and pays great attention to promoting the project in China. Whether it is creating a "star series", adding funny diving to the competition, or starring the team in the large-scale musical "Extraordinary Journey", she is trying to make diving, which was originally "unattainable", connect with "earth air child".

In this cooperation with Zhejiang Satellite TV’s "China Star Jump", all the Chinese diving teams were dispatched. Zhong Shaozhen and other Olympic champion coaches personally trained the stars, and the athletes demonstrated and cheered on the scene. Zhou Jihong even appeared as a referee at the program recording site.

Zhou Jihong was full of praise for the stars who learned diving halfway through: "These stars are very serious when training, and I think it is very difficult for them to get in touch with diving and participate in diving. After all, diving is a technical event with a certain degree of difficulty. Their age and physical conditions are different, and they have the courage to challenge themselves, and the process of defeating themselves is invaluable!"

"It is said that the threshold for learning diving is high, but there are not so many restrictions and requirements. We do not require everyone to jump the 3-meter board and the 10-meter platform, or to become a world champion or Olympic champion after learning it. As long as you master the basic skills, you can.

Indeed, in order to meet the standards of a diver, high standards of physical condition and movement coordination are indeed required. Ordinary people who learn to dive need the guidance of professional coaches and more experience and training in order to appreciate that this is a fun and interesting sport.

After watching the show, some viewers had the question of "diving or jumping off a building". Zhou Jihong said: "After being trained by professional coaches, ordinary people can master basic diving skills. Stars are very clear about their level and ability before they go on stage. But during the game, the excitement will lead to movement dislocation and abnormality, which is very common in athletes who have been training for many years, not to mention stars."

"So when we look at star diving, we don’t rate them according to the standards of professional athletes participating in the Olympic Games. We don’t look at the difficulty of their movements and the beauty of their completion, but we look at what progress and gains they have made in learning to dive compared with themselves," Zhou Jihong said.

"Diving is a sport with a strong appreciation and aesthetic sense," said Zhou Jihong proudly as the first to appear on a TV sports variety show. "To be able to let more people know about diving, like it, and feel that diving is not out of reach is our greatest success!"

While the stars are enjoying learning to dive, Zhou Jihong revealed that the athletes of the Chinese diving team are also stepping up their training and will compete in the British and Russian stations of the FINA series on the 18th, in preparation for this summer’s World Championships in Barcelona.
