Interview with Zhang Jiahui | "Slag Hui" after "Anti-Drug" is too ruthless!

1905 movie network feature "Duan Kun, I’m sure, Jesus can’t keep him, I said it!"Ten years ago, he played Zhang Ziwei in China, facing and interpreting this famous scene of domineering appearance. The line "Duan Kun, I’m sure" has been widely circulated on the Internet since then.

Unexpectedly, ten years later, "Zhang Ziwei" would actually play a movie made by "Duan Kun". The actor who played Duan Kun that year turned into a director, and the first director’s movie continued to find Zhang Jiahui as the starring role, playing the killer Chen An.

The film focuses on the overseas dark crime industry chain, telling the story of Chen An’s transformation into a revenge killer after his sister was murdered, triggering a melee between multiple forces.

In an exclusive interview with 1905 Movie Network, Zhang Jiahui repeatedly praised Ma Yuke’s directing ability, which is completely unlike the new director. This hard bridge and hard horse, fist to meat revenge action film, as well as the new partner lineup, brought Zhang Jiahui a fresh shooting experience.

He thought that there would be no follow-up after filming "Rage Tide", but the investor decided to add another one after watching it, which prompted him and Ma Yuke to cooperate again on "Rebirth". Zhang Jiahui praised it even more, "I didn’t expect his second movie to be better than the first."

From "Anti-Drug" to "Rage Tide"

As early as 2013, Ma Yuke, who was still an actor at the time, began to create the story of "Rage Tide". By 2021, the movie was officially launched, and the script had been grinding for many years. Zhang Jiahui saw all this, and he also knew that Ma Yuke had gone to the director of "Anti-Drug" for advice, saying that he wanted to find him to be the starring role.

In Zhang Jiahui’s opinion, Ma Yuke has always been passionate about movies, and he has always hoped to cooperate with more young mainland directors. After reading the script of "Raging Tide", he thought of being able to make such a dramatic action movie with "Duan Kun" back then, and he quickly agreed to take the lead.

When Ma Yuke was silver-haired and arrogant in "Anti-Drug," he claimed to be the Tsim Sha Tsui "Duan Kun" of the world. In fact, he was "a director who takes care of people’s feelings and does not lose his temper." Zhang Jiahui said that Ma Yuke himself and Duan Kun’s arrogant image are completely different, and what surprised him the most is that he does not look like a rookie director at all.

"Even if I had thought that Ma Yuke would become a director and asked me to act, I never imagined that he could be so good as a director, which surprised me even more. How could it be a new director? I have also made movies with new directors, and it is definitely not like him."

In the movie, Zhang Jiahui plays Chen An, a mysterious killer who is ruthless and works in the dark. In order to avenge his dead sister, he plotted a plan to turn the Hongtai Group, which spans black and white and covers the sky with one hand, upside down.

One popular online review described Zhang Jiahui’s play as follows: "Every time I watch his movie, even if it’s so bad, I feel that there is a reason for it." Zhang Jiahui also found that he often played such tragic characters who seemed fierce on the surface but actually had difficulties, and Chen An was the same.

He used to live a happy life with his sister, but her sister was victimized by the dark forces. However, justice will never be absent, and there will still be people who will stand up for the victims, and light will eventually triumph over darkness.

Zhang Jiahui likes to make crime action dramas very much, and he believes that "Raging Tide" is very different in this genre and attracts him in many ways.

For example, the revenge points that run through the film develop many reversals and sorrowful emotions. In the film, the overseas criminal methods of the Hongtai Group and the process of Chen An’s sister being persecuted by them are infuriating. The process of Chen An and his companions planning the whole situation, undercover revenge, and a one-shot fight is also hateful, and there are many visual impact fighting scenes.

Zhang Jiahui said that this action drama did not have too many fancy scene designs, but it was a real fight, and it was a fight to the death. Because there were so many intense fights in "Raging Tide", he did not dare to tell them when he went to the next crew to shoot a play, "I am afraid that after I say it, people will say that you played so much over there, and we must not have less, but more."

For Zhang Jiahui, "The Tide of Rage" was a rare filming experience. "It’s quite fresh to play such a crazy drama with the new partners of Director Ma,,…"

Best Actor + Director’s "Slag Hui"

"Hello everyone, I’m Slag Slag Hui." In recent years, netizens have liked to joke about "Slag Slag Hui" and his Gangpu accent because Zhang Jiahui endorsed a game’s advertising slogan.

He doesn’t mind this, and will play the "slag Hui" meme with the audience. He told us that recently, he often called the director Ma Yuke to chat about the movie, and also ran a lot in the mainland. Now he speaks Mandarin much more fluently than before.

When filming "Raging Tide", he said his lines in Cantonese, but in the main scenes, he still used Mandarin to play against the opposing actors, and he did not want to distract the opposing actors who spoke Mandarin because he spoke Cantonese.

Zhang Jiahui will become popular and will be welcomed and loved by more and more audiences, not only because of his good acting skills, but also because of his low-key dedication. His hard-working experience of building a strong muscle for 9 months has become a mythical past that everyone praises.

Talking about whether he would play another movie as cruel to him as Guild Wars, Zhang Jiahui smiled and said three "no": "I don’t expect it, it’s impossible, and I don’t want it to happen again. I can’t bear it physically, and it also leaves a very dark shadow psychologically. Now when I see a big iron film that lifts weights, I will be afraid and dare not approach it."

Although this is the case, Zhang Jiahui is usually climbing, running, and exercising, and does a good job of managing his physical functions as an actor. He has not slack off because of his age, and is always ready for good action scenes.

Fifteen years ago, Cheung Ka-fai won the Best Actor Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and five years later, he won the Best Actor Award at the Academy Awards and the Golden Goblet Award at the Shanghai Film Festival for Best Actor with "Guild Wars". With so many acting awards, does Cheung Ka-fai have any goals?

"I made movies to make movies, not to win awards." Zhang Jiahui was very clear, whether it was before or at this stage, who did he think about working with every time he acted? What was the script? How should he act? How can he make a good movie… If he was shortlisted for an award, he also hoped to win, but he would never make a movie to win an award.

Zhang Jiahui is a rare "best actor" director. He has written and directed four feature films, mostly horror themes. Introducing the new film "Redemption of Dreams", which is being posted productin, Zhang Jiahui revealed that the story will tell "how a person redeems himself in a dream and pays off the bad things he has done."

Zhang Jiahui didn’t want to make police and gangster movies all the time, "You can’t just make movies with one theme every day, you should diversify. I’ve always wanted to follow this idea to make movies. There are some characters and some stories that people can’t make, so I just created my own."

He believes that this time as a director will be better than before, and he will give more of his roles to other protagonists, so that he has more time and space to do the director’s work during the filming process.

Returning to his role as an actor, he appeared in Ma Yuke’s second film, Rebirth, which also took place in South East Asia.

Zhang Jiahui revealed that "Rebirth" and "Raging Tide" have no connection in the story, and his character performance space will be larger, and the action scenes will be more ruthless and exciting!
