Wei Qiao, a representative of the 14th National People’s Congress, comes from a professional cooperative of agricultural mechanization in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. She and her lover have a master’s degree in soil science and a doctor’s degree in agriculture. Inspired by the general secretary’s statement that "the achievements of agricultural experts should be reflected in the vast land", Wei Qiao and her husband both quit their jobs in Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University in 2017 and returned to the countryside to become "new farmers" in the new era.
