Inciting, planting and smearing —— Ten cases in which the United States fabricated facts to attack its opponents
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, October 13th Xinhua News Agency reporter Zhu Ruiqing Song Ying Liu Jian
Since the end of World War II, in order to compete for and maintain hegemony, the US government has bribed media people to manipulate public opinion, fabricated facts to discredit opponents, and fabricated excuses to wage war … … It can be said that all kinds of "dirty tricks" and "loss tricks" have been exhausted.
"Mockingbird Project": Buying off the media to manipulate public opinion
Buying off media practitioners all over the world and influencing public opinion by manipulating the media is the "Robin Plan" initiated by the CIA during the Cold War.
Carl berstein, a well-known American investigative journalist who uncovered the scandal in 1977, said that according to the plan, the CIA recruited many journalists to provide information for them for free and instructed them to fabricate "fake news". The CIA once admitted that the "Robin Project" bought at least 400 journalists and 25 large organizations around the world.
To this day, the CIA is still keen on intimidating and luring media people to obtain information and control public opinion. In 2014, Wolfcott, a German frankfurter allgemeine zeitung reporter, revealed in his book The Bought Reporter that the CIA bribed and manipulated journalists from other countries, forcing them to become American spies, and admitted that he was one of them.
"Northern Forest" Action: Directing and Acting "Terrorist Attacks"
In order to induce people to support foreign wars, they will not hesitate to make a "terrorist attack" plan against themselves — — This sounds incredible, but the United States not only dared to think, but almost did it.
In 1959, Fidel Castro led the rebel army to overthrow Cuba’s pro-American dictatorship and establish a revolutionary government. Since then, the U.S. government began to adopt a hostile policy toward Cuba, and the United States did everything it could to subvert the Cuban regime.
The "Northern Forest" plan exposed in 1997 shows that the US Department of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff tried to ask the CIA or other intelligence agencies under the US government to launch "terrorist attacks" on US military and civilian targets in the 1960s, so as to frame the Cuban government and create an excuse for the US to send troops to Cuba.
The planned means of framing include hijacking, shooting down American planes, blowing up American ships and planning violent terrorist activities in American cities. This plan was finally rejected by then US President Kennedy.
"Beibu Gulf Incident": Making up lies to escalate the war
Although the absurd script against Cuba was revoked, the United States used similar methods to trigger an all-round escalation of the Vietnam War.
On August 4, 1964, then US President Johnson delivered a speech, claiming that the US warship was attacked by a torpedo boat of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Beibu Gulf that day, and there was an "armed conflict" between the two sides. Subsequently, the US Congress passed the so-called "Beibu Gulf Resolution", which gave Johnson the green light to order full involvement in the Vietnam War.
However, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam said at the time that there was no conflict with the United States. In recent years, most of the information released by the United States also admitted that the incident was provoked by the United States and deliberately exaggerated. In 2005, the US National Security Agency issued a report admitting that there was "a great possibility" that there were no warships of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam near the US warships on August 4, 1964. According to the archives of the US Navy, two American destroyers fired nearly 400 shells and five depth charges that day, but they were all aimless. James stockdale, an American pilot, was performing a mission in the air that night. He recalled: "Our destroyer only fired at an imaginary target. There was no torpedo boat at all. There was nothing but the dark water and America’s own firepower."
"incubator incident": concocting "tragedy" to incite emotions
"I saw Iraqi soldiers rushing into the hospital with guns and breaking into the ward. There were 15 babies in the incubator. They took the baby out of the incubator and let the children lie on the cold ground and die. " On October 10th, 1990, Naila, a 15-year-old girl, said in tears in the US Congress. She claimed to be a volunteer in a hospital in Kuwait and witnessed this "terrible" scene after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
This testimony was widely reported by the American media, which ignited the anger of the American people. The statement of "saving the baby" strengthened the "humanitarian" color of the Gulf War. According to the BBC, the then US President George W. Bush publicly quoted this testimony at least six times as a reason for the United States to send troops to participate in the Gulf War.
But after the war, some media exposed that Naila’s accusation was false, and even her name was an alias. Naila’s testimony in Congress was planned by the American Weida Strategic Consulting Company, whose Washington office was headed by Craig Fuller, the former chief of staff of George H.W. Bush.
More ironically, the BBC pointed out that on the first day of the US bombing of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, the local power supply was interrupted, and panicked mothers had to take their children out of the hospital incubator and take them to the cold basement to escape, resulting in the death of more than 40 babies.
"Yinhe" incident: "Piracy" is overbearing.
On July 23, 1993, the United States claimed that it had "conclusive evidence" to prove that China’s cargo ship Yinhe had transported "chemical weapons raw materials" to Iran, so it stopped in the international waters of the Indian Ocean. China categorically denies this groundless accusation. Since then, a joint investigation involving a third party has concluded that there are no chemical weapons raw materials on the freighter.
In the face of the facts, the sophistry of the United States is still endless. First, it claimed that "the China government deliberately released false information, which led to this incident", then it changed its mind and said that the Yinhe might have unloaded its cargo or dumped it into the sea. Finally, it claimed that the operation was "based on the trust of different intelligence sources, even though all the information was false".
After the incident, international public opinion was in an uproar. Iran’s Islamic Republic newspaper commented that the "Yinhe" incident created by the US government was purely "piracy". The Hindu said that the United States, the self-styled "chief judge of the world", deliberately created troubles and ended up in bring disgrace to oneself.
"Office of Strategic Impact": False propaganda to beautify the war
After the "September 11th" incident in 2001, the US Department of Defense set up the "Office of Strategic Impact" to be responsible for overseas publicity. The agency beautifies the "war on terror" of the United States by releasing news to foreign media through institutions that have no obvious relationship with the Pentagon, and sending emails to foreign journalists or leaders to promote American views and attack the governments of hostile countries. Soon after, some American media pointed out that the Pentagon sent many false news overseas through these methods, including hostile countries and American allies in the Middle East, Asia and Western Europe.
Under the pressure of great public opinion, in February 2002, then US Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld announced the closure of the office, but at the same time claimed that the US military would not give up its wartime propaganda work.
William M. Arkin, a military analyst, published an article on the website of the Los Angeles Times, saying that after the closure of the Office of Strategic Impact, the U.S. government is still using the control of public information to serve its war goals. In December 2004, The New York Times reported that the U.S. Department of Defense was still discussing whether and how to manipulate information to influence people’s views of the United States in other countries.
"Downing Street Memo": Distorting facts to create excuses
On May 1st, 2005, The Sunday Times disclosed a secret memo about the internal meeting of the British government, which recorded the "achievement introduction" made by Richard Dillov, the former head of British MI 6, after his visit to the United States in 2002.
Dillov said that the Bush administration was determined to take military action to overthrow Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq on the grounds that it was suspected of supporting terrorism and possessing weapons of mass destruction. "The relevant intelligence is being adjusted accordingly", but the US has hardly discussed the possible consequences of military actions.
In 2013, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the outbreak of the Iraq war, The New York Times published a reflective article, pointing out that the outbreak of the Iraq war was not caused by an intelligence error, but was deliberately distorted, and the "Downing Street Memorandum" was the best evidence. Facts have proved that Saddam Hussein’s regime has no weapons of mass destruction and has nothing to do with the "9.11" incident, but the United States still insists on invading such a sovereign country that poses no direct threat to it.
A tube of "washing powder": calling a deer a horse in the Security Council
On February 5, 2003, then US Secretary of State Powell took out a test tube filled with white powder at the UN Security Council meeting, and vowed that it was a "weapon of mass destruction" being developed by Iraq. This is a "famous scene" that the United States openly swindles and swindles in international occasions. When Russian President Vladimir Putin talked about this matter in 2014, he said: "The test tube with unknown objects in it may be washing powder."
Taking a tube of "washing powder" as evidence, the United States invaded Iraq with its allies, which plunged the country into long-term turmoil. About 200,000 to 250,000 civilians died in the war, of which the US military directly killed more than 16,000 people. Today, there are still about 25 million mines and other explosive remnants in Iraq to be cleared.
"White Helmet" Organization: Fake posing as a tiger.
In November 2016, the NGO "White Helmet" issued an apology statement under the pressure of public opinion, acknowledging that the previously released video of the organization’s staff rescuing the wounded in Aleppo, Syria was a pose. This is not the first time that the "white helmet" has discredited the Syrian government by video fraud, and obviously it is not the last time. On September 11, 2018, the Russian Ministry of National Defense issued a statement saying that Syrian anti-government militants once again staged a fake scene of "being attacked by chemical weapons."
According to media reports, the United States is an important supporter of the "White Helmets" organization. In 2018, as the Syrian government forces regained more and more territory, the United States negotiated with its allies to help the "white helmet" withdraw from Syria. In 2019, then US President Trump publicly ordered to provide the organization with $4.5 million in aid.
Alexander Domlin, an associate professor at the Russian Higher School of Economics, pointed out that the United States is aware that it is gradually losing its global hegemony, so it interferes in other countries’ internal affairs more by funding non-governmental organizations.
"clean network" plan: discrediting opponents and maintaining hegemony
On August 5th, 2020, Pompeo, then US Secretary of State, launched the "Clean Network" program, trying to suppress Huawei and other Chinese enterprises in the 5G field on the pretext that China enterprises "pose a great threat" to US national security and citizens’ privacy. To peddle this plan, Pompeo and then Deputy Secretary of State Clatchy went to many countries to lobby.
However, according to the German Daily Mirror, after years of review, the official institutions of the European Union, Britain and Germany did not find obvious security risks in Huawei equipment, but often found security loopholes in Cisco equipment in the United States. The real reason why the United States fabricates facts and discredits Chinese enterprises lies in its fear that China will dominate the global technology field in the future, thus weakening the hegemony of the United States.
In fact, it is precisely the United States that poses a threat to global cybersecurity. Tom Foday, a British writer and expert on international issues, pointed out that large Internet companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook are all American companies. They provide data to the US government, enabling it to establish a global monitoring network.
